Update for MSR

July 29th, 2008
by jadegrrrl

After much anticipation in the blythe community it is great to finally see her promo photos. I think she will be much loved especially for her vintage skin tone and her outfit is absolutely amazingly retro cool. Will her fringe be manageable or unruly? We have yet to see…

The final design of Neo Blythe “Miss Sally Rice”!

“Miss Sally Rice” is a friend of “Mrs. Retro Mama,” who was popular for her retro-themed style and vintage-like skin tone.
080728_MSR_fis1.jpg

“Miss Sally Rice” also has young retro look.
There is a Showa-style black cat applique on her red dress.
She has a different look when she takes off the white collar and wears her pink blouse under her dress.
The set comes with a headdress and bag with bouquet and beaded necklace!
080728_MSR_fis2.jpg

She has a skin tone that is a bit fairer than Mrs. Retro Mama’s, with light brown eye shadow and pink lips and brush.
Her light blue semi-long hair is so adorable!

I ( along with many others ) have been eagerly awaiting a pair of the new Mary Janes that have been manufactured by Adam from Blythe Mode. I have a decent collection of the Barbie MJ’s already and these have been difficult to collect in the colourways i have wanted, so to have the opportunity to buy some outright especially in colours i really wanted ( like dark brown) was especially appealing.

Full kudos to Adam and his wife Michelle for filling this hole in the market, if you read Michelle’s  blog  http://blythemode.wordpress.com/2008/07/20/whats-going-on-with-the-shoes/ you will see that they have been literally overwhelmed with orders and Adam has ended up with some very sore thumbs from prising tiny little shoes out of molds.
So the first pair i ordered ( dark brown ) arrived this week. In comparison to the ’squishy’ MJ’s and the ‘hard ‘ MJ’s i would definitely say they feel virtually identical to the ‘hard’ MJ’s. This is due to the fact that they do not use phthalate plasticizers in their production which means the shoe does not have the rubber- like elasticity or forgiveness of a plasticizer -rich vinyl product.
At the point i ordered these shoes ( in the first production batch ) Adam was advertising that they fit the licca foot. He has since amended this statement. He was using one body type of licca to test them on which they did fit but when he tried them on another licca bodytype he found the strap snapped when putting them on the foot. I can testify firsthand that the licca type he must have had that occur on was one of the BL blythes. Please heed my warning…i stupidly thought i would give it a go and i tried my brand spanking new MJ’s on my Goldie and with very little force at all, the strap immediately snapped.
He has been a most conscientious seller throughout the whole trial and error process and has happily agreed to accept returns of any shoes that snapped on licca feet that were purchased in the first batch. You receive with your purchase a ‘ caring for your MJ’s’ information sheet which basically advises about not putting undue pressure on the strap whilst inserting the dolls foot etc.
If you heed the warning and dont try them on your BL blythes feet they are a great product at a really good price . Not only are they readily available but there are some new and wonderful colours in his collection to try ( like the gunmetal grey ). He takes preorders and has just filled his last batch so i presume once these are manufactured and delivered there will be more up for preorder in the ‘Blythe Mall’ section of This is Blythe.
For those of you wondering about postage, i chose the cheapest shipping option available and they arrived in the normal amount of time it normally takes for stuff to ship from the U.S. So unless you are in a hurry i would suggest you save yourself some money and get it sent by the cheapest international airmail option he offers.

I finally tracked down a couple of Catwalk Kitties, the presumably unsuccessful cat-model doll release from Lanard.

Catwalk kitties

These pictures are of Toffee and Anika (not in stock clothes), who are two of the ‘Models’ in the series. The others are Purrl, Sushi, Sienna and Minx. The other half of the series are the ‘Behind the Scenes’ dolls: Callie the model of the year, Topaz the make-up artist, Jet the fashion Photographer and Chase the modeling agent. These last ones are supposedly harder to find. There are also petite versions of many of the dolls.

Their bodies are a bit like Barbie or Bratz, as they’re not very articulated - their heads, hips etc twist but only their knees bend. Their feet come off like Brats feet, but aren’t switchable due to the plastic colour being different on each doll.

According to the response to my pestering email to Big W, they’re definitely discontinued. They’re also MIA on the Lanard official website. Though the ‘harder to find’ ones have popped up on Amazon.com and many are still gathering dust in a few places around Australia, like Big W and Toy Kingdom and a couple of other shops. They can also be found in a few countries around Europe, but I’m not aware of the details.

I wonder if they’ll the next Peteena. It’s a pity they’re not making any more.

Pullips & Dals | 2 Comments »

So far there have been eighteen Dals released by Jun Planning, with four more to come that have been announced. A lot of Blythe fans seem to fall easily for Dal, which is interesting considering that many Pullip lovers appeared slow to warm up to the newer doll.

Tweety Dal out of stock clothes

How can you say no to that face?

Recently it was announced that there is another Jun Planning doll type being released, with more on the way. On the Jun Planning website a Pullip family tree can be found showing more doll types: Byul, Bada, Ggot and Eseul. The first to be released is Byul. The website boasts that she is ‘the sole friend of Dal’. Some of the reactions to her so far are mixed - from adoration to utter dislike. Her head shape’s a little different to Dal’s, with larger eyes.

When she’s finally released, supposedly later this year, Byul’s fans will probably make themselves known. You can never judge a doll by their initial reception, right?

She’s got to be the most popular frog since Kermit, but what is it that makes Studio-Uoo’s Wonderfrog so popular? Hhmmm…

Well, her designer, Kenzo, is a fan, and an imaginative customiser, of Blythe dolls and that’s always a sign of a person with excellent taste in toys. But that doesn’t explain the explosion of interest over the past year (her birthday was on the 20th June) that has led to Ms. W. Frog being almost constantly being sold out.

I was taken with her as soon as I saw her in some photostream or other on Flickr. She was on some adventure or other, as she apparently often is - she has starred in an ‘Edge of the World’ storybook which makes me want to learn Japanese right now. I’m not sure I can put my finger on exactly her appeal though. I think it’s something to do with those funny little skinny limbs and her somewhat enigmatic smile.

Whatever it is, Wanda, we love you.

I keep thinking that next time, next time, I’ll give the new Nikki a miss. It isn’t going to happen today though. When it come to Odeco, I can take her or leave her - I think it’s the wig, I don’t like wigged dolls so much - but Nikki I find irresistible!

2635421753_a9a34c4d1b.jpg

And who could resist the little halter top and knee socks?  It doesn’t look much like a band uniform to me, but it does look adorable.

I am a bit disappointed that every Nikki seems to have come with blue eyes since series 4 (the calico cat) though.  I’m already looking for just the right acrylic eyes to customise this one.

Petworks are also releasing Odeco & Nikki keyrings.  I think they’ll be a cute toy for my Nikkis (my many, many Nikkis).

Right, so I haven’t slept much over the past few days and decided it would be a GREAT idea to go on an internet quest for the coveted Mary Jane shoes after seeing the below page which was extremely informative:

http://uk.geocities.com/magicknightrhiannon/mary-janes.html

Thanks Rhiannon!

I was a huge fan of Barbie Fashion Avenue when it was in its heyday, but I somehow managed to NOT buy any of the sets that contained the now popular MJ’s (what can I say, I have no ‘eye’).

However, I am proud to say I have located (with pics, not mine) at least three sets of Fashion Avenue clothing editions that contain pink MJ’s. I have possibly found more but they require further investigation (they look like the taller version which isn’t a great fit for Blythe).

As below:

Fashion Avenue 2003 ‘Style’ B8269

Fashion Avenue Style

Fashion Avenue 2002 ‘Blues’ B3200

Fashion Avenue 2

Fashion Avenue 2002 ‘Metro’ 56098

Fashion Avenue 3

My quest is far from over but just wanted to share this little piece of info in the hopes that people who want to buy these and own them (and not just buy them cheap and re-sell at some ridic price!!!) can have a chance :)

And, just oot of interest, does anyone know where these came from:

Grape

I can see from Rhiannon’s site that they came in a pack, but I never bought that pack. I think someone sent these to me as a freebie (yikes!!!) but I possibly could have gotten these from somewhere else. Any ideas?

Happy Hunting!!!!
